MINGO HILL O.F.W.B. CHURCH

ESTABLISHED 1892

Our history is a long history, a proud history, a history of stability and most of all faith in the all mighty God. We put God first in all we do.

Mingo Hill was established in 1892.  In 1891, the property and old building was given to the founding members and named Free Will Baptist Church- Colored in Sampson County, NC.   In 1892, papers were filed to establish the church.  Down through the years the name was changed to its present name.  We started out on the hill that was behind the current church.

The past pastors included Rev J.D. McKoy (1940’s), Rev A.D. Herring (1950-1960) the vision began to build the current church.  The members had plate sales, building fund programs toward the new church.  Under the leadership of the late Bishop Clifford Rouse (1960-1985), the dream came true and we celebrated our first service in March 1965.  What a celebration.  Elder Elijah Newkirk served as interim pastor in 1985-1987.  Elder George McIver served as pastor from 1987-1996 and during his leadership, we added the front porch, added a pastor study, and bought a church van.  Elder William Frederick served as pastor from 1997-1999 until his illness forced him to retire.  Under his leadership, a multi-purpose room was added and the baptismal pool. Under the leadership of Elder T.Z. McCrimmon (2000-2010), new pews were bought and the first 2 female deacons in the church history were ordained and first female trustee.  Elder Marshal Blackmond served as pastor from 2011-2013. We have now transitioned to a new beginning under the pastoral leadership of the first female pastor – Elder Odetta Batts.  The church family is blessed to have a divinely ordained, God sent under –shepherd to preach and teach the Good News of Jesus Christ – the Gospel.  We are focused on reaching and winning souls for the up building of the Kingdom of God.  Mingo Hill is truly committed to “A New beginning – moving forward.”
